SSO Reduction Program
SAWS is committed to reducing the number of SSOs in the San Antonio service area and improving our sewer system. By 2023 all of the SAWS sewers – almost 6,000 miles of pipe – will be examined, and priority projects will be identified with solutions implemented.
The investments our community has made in the sewer system since 2012 are working. Sanitary sewer overflows caused by structural deficiencies, grease, and debris in the pipes have been reduced since the program’s inception. With the increased focus on repairing our system, by 2023 there should be a dramatic reduction.
